BANNER CARRIERS NEEDED FOR NATIONAL DAY OF THE ACADIANS FRENCH MASS

Volunteers are needed to carry Acadian family name banners during a French Mass to be held in St. Martinville on Friday, August 15.

On this day, Mayor Thomas Nelson and the city of St. Martinville celebrates la FĂȘte Nationale de l'Acadie or National Day of Acadia with a flag raising, grand opening and open house at the Acadian Memorial and St. Martinville Cultural Heritage Center. Additional events are planned at the Duchamp Opera House and at Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site.

The day of activities leads up to a procession which departs from theMemorial at 6:30 and makes way to St. Martin de Tours, followed closely by the family name banner carriers.

The Mass is devoted to Our Lady of the Assumption, patroness of Acadians. It will be celebrated in French by Monsieur Douglas Courvillewith the French Acadian Memorial Choir led by Sarah Roy.

After Mass, a Bar-B-Q dinners will be sold for ($15.00) at the newly renovated, La Maison on 100 N. Bridge Street in St. Martinville. RSVPat 337.9813289.
Volunteers who would like to carry a banner to the Mass should contact the Memorial at (337) 394-2258 as soon as possible to reserve one.

At 5:30 p.m. on August 15, those who have reserved their banners should meet at the Acadian Memorial and prepare to depart for church at 5:45p.m.
