JULY 28: A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Date: July 7th, 2008

St.Martin de Tours Catholic Church & Acadian Memorial Host "July 28th: A Day of Remembrance": A moment to remember the suffering of the Acadians during the Acadian exile
in 1755.

In 2003, Queen Elizabeth II signed a Royal Proclamation stating that every July 28th, the world should pause to remember the suffering of the Acadian nation of people during the Acadian exile.

The deportation order was signed by the British Governor Lawrence in Halifax, Nova Scotia on July 28th, 1755. From 1755 to 1763, more than 7,000 (half ofthe population) perished.

On Monday, July 28th, at 5:30 p.m., the mother church of the Acadians,"St. Martin de Tours" and the Acadian Memorial invite the community to meet at the church for a commemorative ceremony of reflection on the international "Day of Remembrance" (as provided in the 2003 Queen's Royal Proclamation ).

At the conclusion of the service, the church bells will toll during a solemn procession of the congregation to the Acadian Memorial Deportation Meditation Garden for prayers under the Deportation Cross. A light reception will follow.
